Polishing Jewelry for Beginners
Learning how to polish jewelry can feel so overly complicated when you see what is out in the marketplace. Often people teach you how to make jewelry, but not necessarily how to “finish” it. In this video I show you everything that I personally use to sand and polish my jewelry. Although this is how I choose to polish my work, there are so many other methods and tools that you can use to get the finished look you want!

Micro-Fiber Simulated Leather Wheel, 22mm X 5-Ply – https://www.riogrande.com/product/micro-fiber-simulated-leather-wheel-22mm-x-5-ply/330023GP/?code=330023
Excellent tutorial! You’re a GREAT teacher. Thank you! I have a question. When I do pendants with bezel set stones I always worry to get water under my stones and so I tend to not use compounds after I’ve set, the stones but of course dents are made setting the stones.🤦🏻♀️I do use some pumice wheels which helps to take out dents but not as great for shine as compounds.
Thank you for this!! I was looking for polishing videos yesterday so your timing is perfect. 2 quick question – how exactly are you washing pieces between compounds? And also do you do anything differently for your more textured pieces (like your wax carvings)?
Can I ask you what thickness you have on the silver that you used for your earrings? I want to order silver sheet but it’s hard to know what thickness to use. This looks like a good middleground
please protect your hands from these metals
i love how you just get right into the video!! thanks
But what do I search to find the suedey wheels?! 😩
❤❤🌹
One more thing. I pour silver bars. I start by using a white compound, then green and then red or rouge. But I just don’t seem to get a "super" shiny bar, after polishing. I use a new polishing disc after each color. Is it possible because I’m not cleaning the old compound off good enough, before I apply the next compound? I also use one of those big balls for the final polish and I always use a new one. But I still just can’t seem to get that shine I’d like. Thank you in advance.
Thaks. ❤😊
Thank you for sharing, I am just starting out at the age of 60 and i’m loving it.
This is literally the best polishing vid I’ve found!
Try silicone mold putty. The other is a sticky mess.
Thank you for uploading this video. Really learned a lot from this video. And I have a question, what solution should we clean/wash with? Can I use a normal soap solution or a shampoo?
What are you using to get in tight creases to polish, like around prongs?
9:00 I hate when that happens lol. Especially when it’s a bezel and the fall causes it to dent and then you have to reshape it 😢
Thanks for the great video!!
Great ! I love all of your videos, they are so so helpful
Can you maybe make a video showing all the different steps and tools needed after a piece has been casted?
What works for me is Zam! for anything silver with soft stones and Fabuluster for gold/silver for everything else using my flex-shaft. Also when using the mops, try running the flex shaft in reverse (if you are holding the hand piece in your right hand) so that the compound flings away from your face and not all over you. And… you must wear a mask, lol. Great video thanks for sharing.
Beautiful work!!!❤❤❤Thank you for the video🤗🙏🏻
Thanks for the info. You look a little tired Adriana. Working full time, raising a family, keeping a house ship shape and running a business, not to mention a YouTube channel must be taxing.
I cut and polish Australian opal and I have only just started setting my opals in custom jewellery. For polishing I have a seperate felt wheel on the small flat lap that I coat with gumption. Then when that takes the course stuff out I switch to the same tin oxide I use for the polishing the opal. My lap has a recirculating water delivery system that keeps the work clean and cool and it slowly dilutes the compound as you go giving a finer and finer polish the more you work on the piece. With the more detailed or intricate areas I use the same system with tapered felt wheel on my dremel. Always get a mirror finish.
Really enjoying your channel and seeing your pretty face. If only you were all Aussies you would be perfect lol. Take care of your beautiful family Adriana and be safe.
I would consider myself a moderate silversmith, I’ve made alot of jewelry but always had a difficult time finishing my jewelry, I have so many pieces that construction wise are great but they don’t have that polished look. This was very informative -thank you so much!
You are amazing. Thank you so much for these wonderful tips!
Do you use an ultrasonic to clean your pieces?
❤
hi! which soldering kit do you use for your wax rings?
Great video! I just started pouring silver. I pour bars and other things. I’m learning about polishing. Let’s say I use 3 different polishes using a Dremel. Should I wipe off the silver piece after using each polish? Is that important?
So glad to see that your subscribers are multiplying by the day!!!! Congrats to you🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊 Thanks again for such a great video!
Thank you for sharing! I must learn this and not be afraid! I’m older, too, and making friends with silversmithing. 🙂
Thank you so much this video helped me out a lot! Can you do a video of like how much you would charge for your products and shipping ect
Omg yes! Thanks for making this!
Thank you for this video! Very helpful!!! Can you please make a video on stone setting? This is my biggest challenge! Thanks! You are amazing ❤
when you apply (sorry I dont know exactly what they are called) the stuff you apply with the mops (the clay compound), this is for the shine correct? How easy does that stuff rub off the jewelry or does it stay on for the long time? Also great video on finishing.
Thank you so much, I´m a beginner with metals and this is very useful to learn! ☺
When or why would you need to use a tumbler or something like an ultrasonic cleaner? Are they necessary?
what do you wash your piece with in between compounds?
Hello, Mitra, don’t be tired, you have a very nice and clean workshop, my dear, I am very beautiful and the works you make are excellent, my dear, which country and city are you, how old are you, and where did you learn all these things? Will you teach me, I want to open a workshop. But I don’t have the capital to learn and work sometimes. What do you have to offer me to make jewelry with gold metal? Thank you, my dear, I love it.
